The Soup Kitchen Follies will be taking a two week hiatus
No Follies on May 3 and May 10

May 14 - Steph Taylor 8 - 10 pm
Florida based Steph Taylor is in on a national tour. "Steph Taylor has been described as a musical poet, creating a complete sensory experience through sound. There is no real way to pigeonhole this multi-instrumental artist, with a uniquely percussive approach to piano complimented by a flirtatious guitar style. Her smoky soulful voice lends itself to the emotional quality of her music. And while her presence is undeniably striking, her humility tends to match her humanity when she is on a stage." Feel free to check out her myspace page at www.myspace.com/stephtaylor . There is a $3 cover for the evening.

May 15 - The Starlings 9 - 11 pm
The Seattle, Washington based Starlings featuring the Silverhands are also passing through Iowa on a national tour. Both groups play with an incredible americana / country sound and are sure to please the masses. Cover is $5.

May 17 - Valentin Ruiz
Our first latin performer, Valentin Ruiz, will be breaking in our stage as he brings a taste of the latin-american flair to the crowd! Cover is $5.

May 23 – Gayla Drake Paul 9 - 11 pm

May 24 – Note Worthy Music quartet 9 - 11 pm

May 30 - Blue Midnight Trio 9 - 11 pm
May 31 – Sharon Bousquet 9 - 11 pm

Born in South Philadelphia to a musical family, Sharon grew up on the East Coast in towns like Chester, PA and Wilmington, DE. Voices from the left side of the radio dial began making an impression during the long vacations her family took each summer. With her father behind the wheel of a wood-paneled Ford station wagon and a small Scotty travel trailer rolling behind, the voices of Joni Mitchell, CSNY, and the progressive rock melodies of Yes, Led Zeppelin and Heart took hold. Those long car rides throughout the West left ample time for an artist’s imagination to rise, for a writer to be born.

Each of Sharon’s 6 CDs, including her first session in ’94 with the Vancouver-based ensemble “Travelers in Paradise” - a compilation that raised $10,000 for the H.I.V. ward of the Vancouver Children’s Hospital - have been independently released. Now, the strongest of the six reaches American audiences with the spring 2007 radio release of "Temple".

"Temple" was recorded and mixed in Austin, Texas at MoonHouse Studio with multi-instrumentalist Chris Gage at the helm (Albert & Gage, Roy Clark). The first track is a lush and open rendition of Nick Drake’s “Northern Sky”, with minimalist support from piano, bass and drums. This leaves plenty of room for Sharon Bousquet’s gift of a voice to take hold of the spotlight and not let it go.

“Sharon Bousquet does everything with sultry grace. She has considerable prowess on the acoustic guitar, yet puts her instrument down to belt out electrifying a cappella numbers like the gospel-tinged Temple. Bousquet has the substance to rise to the top.” R. Patt, Metro Santa
